Here are 3 other small pieces I did for the art relief which went very well. We raised over 700 dollars for charity and got to drink plenty of great beer at the Corner Brewery! All of these were done on felt board in oil and marker.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the extreme lack of updates lately. If anyone is looking for a status update I am still living in Detroit. I haven't found a full time position just yet but I have been fortunate enough to be apart of a pretty cool freelance project. Chris Harrison is a writer in California and contacted me about doing some concept art for his upcoming series. I've been hard at work creating characters, environments, web banners, etc. and once the website is up you can believe I will be posting links here.

Also Art X is coming up and I had a couple of submissions. Here is an older painting I decided to touch up and submit. Based off of an amazing tv show that I miss dearly, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. This was done with acrylic, gouache, ink and marker on wood.

There is an exciting event going on in Detroit right now called the "Retreat Art Show". It's being put on by the Trumbullplex and the idea was to pick up some discarded tires and turn them into artwork. Luckily living in Detroit gives us a surplus of old tires so it was not a problem. Then the tires will be on display and auctioned off for charity. Here is a link to the event on facebook. The even tis this saturday and if you are in the area you should check it out! Here is a few works in progress. The first is my submission for the Detroit Jazzfest Poster Competition this year. It is basically finished, a couple of final touches I want to make but it does need to be rephotographed as well. The other is my first stab at a comic strip. I drew a lot of inspiration from Jamie Hewlitt and Ashley Wood's Tank Girl comic. My friend Matt Byle and I have decided to collaborate in a very free, loose way with these comics. Basically the idea is that I do a page, he draws inspiration from what I did and creates the second page. It doesn't necessarily have to continue the story just using it as a jumping off point, then rinse and repeat. Should be an interesting and fun experience. Enjoy!

Here is the finished version of my Little Red Riding Hood. Just finished framing this bad boy and it is being shipped off to the children's hospital in Detroit and around march will be on display at the Detroit Public Library. I've also recently decided to enter the 2010 Jazzfest Poster Competition and have begun working out my painting for that. I'll post images when I get a bit further into the piece. There is also a show about to start up at the Carr Center hosted by the Arts League of Michigan that I will be participating in. I'll post up some info on that show as soon as I know.

The first one is an illustration based off of a sketchbook project I am taking part in through Art House Co-Op My theme was monsters and I thought it would be fun to take my favorite sketches and create an illustration out of them to glue to the inside cover. The 2nd illustration is about passing notes in grade school. Also tomorrow is the last day of the semester, I couldn't be happier!

So a few things to update upon. I've finished re-vamping my book "Be Optimistic" with new images and just tightened up some of the querks with it. Going to have my instructors check it out, get some final advice then begin ordering a bundle of them to ship off for internships. I've also begun working on re-designing a comic book cover for a popular blog, Covered Blog. I decided to do Calvin and Hobbes because I've always been a huge fan and am really excited to give my own spin on the comic classics. Finally I worked out a piece for an upcoming competition called "Let's Save Michigan" which is a promotion to inspire people to be more involved in creating a better Michigan. Izzy's/ Touchup Creeper

This first piece I did was for the St Patricks Day show over at Izzy's Raw Art Gallery. The show runs for 2 weeks but opening night is March 14th from 8pm-11pm and March 15th after the parade from 9am-whenever. Also there is free beer on sunday!

My piece illustrates a local bar myself and a group of friends attend every thursday called Herman's. We have titled this event thirsty thursdays, it's always a good time to get out and relax every once in awhile. 20x16 Acrylic on Canvas and it will be for sale at Izzy's. (Once again don't mind the shadows in the corners. Sometimes it's impossible to get a decent shot in my apartment.)

The second piece is a touch up of an older painting I did entitled "Creeper" I touched it up for the 3v3 Illustration Annual and I'll find out in may if it made it in or not. 24x24 Acrylic and Marker on Board.

It occured to me today that March 2nd is only a few days away, I have no idea what happened to February but it certainly is not here anymore. The reason I'm mentioning this is the fact that I have 2 pieces to turn into annuals, and a piece for a gallery all due on March 2nd. Then 3 days later I have to have a piece to turn in for another annual. On top of a very large amount of homework, next week is shaping up to be a busy one.

In Jazzfest related news, I received an email today saying that my painting is in the top 5 and I have to drop the painting off at the Michigan Arts Office on March 2nd (who would have guessed) but I'm very excited. They are going to judge the top 5 pieces and decide which piece will be the poster for the Jazzfest this year. Wish me luck!

Here is my portrait for the day. This is my roomate Bobby, he is goofy and makes funny faces. This is the first gouache painting I've done since my freshman year. I'm still not a big fan but I did begin to understand how to use it. Maybe I'll give it a few more tries before I decide if I like it or not.

So heres the lowdown. First is a sketch for a t-shirt design I'm doing for Tree And Bicycle Co, check them out they've got some really great shirts for sale. www.treebicycleco.com. This is only half the design but the idea is 2 groups of people are trapped in a "bucket" or basically just a hole of some sort and one group works together and makes it out "harmony" while the other fights to get out and accomplishes nothing "chaos". This is obviously the harmony side and I'll post the chaos sketch, color studies and eventually a picture of the actual shirt when its made.

2nd on the line up is an in class study. 3 hours, water based oil on canvas. 12x16.

3rd would be an illustration for my editorial painting class based off an article "Maia In Yonkers" by Sana Krasikov. That would be acrylic and marker on canvas. 12x16

The last 3 would be spot illustrations for my editorial painting class. For these we only had a week on so all of these were quite rushed. All done in acrylic on canvas. All 8x12 i believe.

Hope everyone has a happy halloween! I'll be spending my halloween this year in ohio enjoying the fine melodies of mindless self indulgence. haha should be a good time.

All these paintings were done in water based oil on canvas. The first piece was an assignment in my adv illustration tech class. We were given a random quote and had to come up with different ideas on where to take it. My quote was "What we expect seldom occurs, what we least expect generally happens." and I decided to do a piece about my aunt. A few years back she was at a fair and it began to storm, lightning struck her umbrella but luckily the umbrella had a rubber handle so she wasnt harmed. This was 30x20.

2nd piece was an in class study. Done in 3 hours, on canvas 12x12.

3rd is a portrait of John Bonham. The assignment was to do a portrait of someone we respect, who is famous and deceased. Done on 16x12 canvas. Enjoy!!!!!!

The idea of this assignment was another spin on vinyl and we had to show how vinyl records are becoming trendy and popular among the younger crowds. I chose to do a pirade with all the trendy thrift store kids following behind the leader who has an old school record player strapped to his chest and back marching through the streets of detroit. It has recently come to my attention that all the images on my monitor appear to be much brighter than those on other monitors (or at least thats what I'm assuming by the prints I've been getting back in the image center) so maybe let me know if this piece looks extremely dark to you or not cause I'd really like to figure this issue out.

Anyways this is acrylic and marker on 20x16 canvas.

School has begun once again. Always a bit overwhelming to get back into the groove of things but everythings been going well. Keeping myself very busy with school work and some commission work whenever I have time. Anyways I have to get back to more homework, I'll be posting some process work and maybe some progress shots of paintings in the works. Take care everyone!
